Best Moments From the 17th Annual Jazz in the Gardens Festival

The 17th annual Jazz In The Gardens festival took place over the weekend in Miami Gardens, and despite the scorching heat, it was an incredible 2-day event. Partnering with The Black Promoters Collective for the first time, the festival aimed to celebrate the black experience in collaboration with the City of Miami Gardens. Held at the iconic Hard Rock Stadium, known for hosting the Miami Dolphins, Miami Tennis Open, and Formula One Racing, the festival brought together music and culture right in the 305.

Mayor Rodney Harris of Miami Gardens shared insights with EBONY about this year’s festival, highlighting the city’s commitment to elevating the cultural experience in Miami. β€œMiami Gardens isn’t just a city that has an incredible music festival. We are probably the sports capital of the world, with every different major sport being played here in South Florida and the championships are being held right here in South Florida. So it allows us to be at the table when events come into this community and people look for a place we know how to do it.”

EBONY was on the scene and compiled some of the best performances from both days of the weekend, providing a nostalgic trip for those who attended and a glimpse into the event for those who missed out. Whether reliving the experience or discovering it for the first time, here’s a recap of the 17th annual Jazz In The Gardens Festival.

Kirk Franklin brought unmatched energy to the stage at Jazz In The Gardens. Despite it being his first time at the event, he understood the assignment, creating an atmosphere that felt like a Sunday church service. His performance of classics like “Stomp,” “Brighter Day,” and, of course, “Melodies from Heaven” had the crowd singing along like a church choir.

Fantasia came on stage letting the crowd know she just did “The Color Purple” movie but also proved she’s still got the music game on lock. Her stage presence was unmatched, even bringing up Councilwoman Wilson. Fantasia delivered all her hits and even paid homage to DC’s Go-Go music scene by playing Rare Essence’s “Overnight Scenario.”
