10 Mar Jazz in the Gardens Returns After 2-Year Hiatus
After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Jazz in the Gardens (JITG) returns this year to the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens on Saturday and Sunday, March 12 and 13, for its 15th year anniversary.
The roster includes jazz and R&B names including Mary J. Blige, H.E.R, Rick Ross, The Isley Brothers, SWV, The Roots with special guest T-Pain, Stokely, Johnathan McReynolds, Mike Phillips and Mark Allen Felton.
The event will be hosted by syndicated radio host and comedian Rickey Smiley, host of The Rickey Smiley Morning Show.
Rodney Harris, City of Miami Gardens mayor says the 2022 festival represents a comeback as the City of Miami Gardens’ signature event, featuring big-name, award-winning artists showcasing music, culture, and diversity of the city.
“We’re thrilled for the return of Jazz in the Gardens in the City of Miami Gardens,” says Harris. “What better way to jump-start the New Year and get everybody out of the house?”
“We are excited to have talented, award-winning artists to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the festival that showcases music and the culture and diversity of Miami Gardens,” says Harris.
The third-largest city in Miami-Dade County, Harris expects a packed house at the Hard Rock Stadium, estimating approximately 25 to 30,000 attendees for the weekend which begins with a Women’s Impact and networking luncheon on Friday, March 11, focusing on women’s empowerment and an opening night kick-off party that evening featuring five different DJs.
“We’re energized and ready to get the party started,” Harris says, noting that he’s personally excited to see Mary J. Blige on stage and the Isley Brothers, who he says he grew up listening to.
Acknowledging that Blige is still riding a wave after the success of her Superbowl half-time show, Harris says, “We’re fortunate she accepted our invitation to Miami Gardens.”
The event is produced in conjunction with Live Nation Entertainment and Live Nation Urban.
“I am super excited to work alongside the city to produce the event this year,” says Shawn Gee, president of Live Nation Urban. “Jazz in the Gardens is one of the most important live events in the culture of jazz and R&B music, globally.”
“Our goal is not only to produce a stellar event, but to let the world know about the hidden gem that City of Miami Gardens has with this event,” Harris says.
Gates open at 3 p.m., show begins at 4 p.m.
