That\u2019s twice the previous year\u2019s headcount when Live Nation coordinated the notable event. When it was all said and done, Brown and his eight business partners, Gary Guidry, Shelby Joyner, William Ingram, Shahidi Mausi, Lionel Bea, Sulaiman Mausi, Janice Cotton, and Walter Reeder, partnered with the City of Miami Gardens and pulled off a monumental festival that was well-attended to the tune of 41,000 people. The successful partnership came after one of the members met the city\u2019s Vice Mayor, Katrina Wilson.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"45\"><span data-reader-unique-id=\"46\">\u201cI was at the Ben Crump law school dedication at St. Thomas University, and [Brown] walked in behind Will Smith,\u201d Wilson told <\/span><b data-reader-unique-id=\"47\">BE<\/b><span data-reader-unique-id=\"48\">. \u201cThey say, That\u2019s the guy from the Black Promoter Collective,\u2019 and I ask, what\u2019s the black collector? They say, \u2018Oh, they do concerts all around.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"49\"><span data-reader-unique-id=\"50\">Wilson continued: \u201cI say, go get him \u2026 He\u2019s going to do Jazz in the Gardens.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"49\"><span data-reader-unique-id=\"238\">That chance meeting led to an unforgettable weekend that kicked off with activations around the city. The first being a tasting event on March 8 at City Hall that showcased culinary businesses that would be on deck at Jazz in the Gardens festival, like Popo\u2019s Seafood, known for its <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/C4NtkTMrvOk\/?igsh=bHd6enpuc2pic29q\" data-reader-unique-id=\"239\"><span data-reader-unique-id=\"240\">insanely delicious conch salad<\/span><\/a><span data-reader-unique-id=\"241\"> and sticky wings, TJ\u2019s Southern Kitchen, Grillz on Wheels, Reeds C. Catering, and Reggae Beets Food Truck.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"257\"><span data-reader-unique-id=\"258\">For International Women\u2019s Day, the city of Miami Gardens hosted The Women\u2019s Impact Luncheon with singer extraordinaire Fantasia as keynote speaker. Attendees included local dignitaries, Divine 9 sororities, and Miami Gardens residents.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"259\"><span data-reader-unique-id=\"260\">\u201cThe true highlight of the day, our main speaker was Fantasia Barino,\u201d Neki Mohan said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"263\"><span data-reader-unique-id=\"264\">\u201cThere was a group of young girls from an elementary school in Miami Gardens \u2026 and she advised them to be confident, to be purposeful, and to put God first.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"265\"><span data-reader-unique-id=\"266\">\u201cShe hugged and loved on them,\u201d Mohan continued: \u201cAnd for them to see such a powerful woman come down and just give them such life, light and grace. There was not a dry eye in the room.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"271\"><span data-reader-unique-id=\"272\">On the evening of March 9, Kid Capri, BoWeezy, DJ Tight, She-J Hercules, and DJ Nasty kept partygoers on their toes, spinning old-school classics and new-school bops for the Jazz in the Gardens opening night party at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel &amp; Casino\u2019s DAER Dayclub.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"273\"><span data-reader-unique-id=\"274\">Miami Gardens has a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.miamigardens-fl.gov\/\" data-reader-unique-id=\"275\"><span data-reader-unique-id=\"276\">storied history as one of the Blackest cities<\/span><\/a><span data-reader-unique-id=\"277\"> in the state of Florida, the ninth-largest Black populous nationally, and the 65th globally. Its former mayor, Sheryl Gibson, who held office from 2003 to 2012, had a vision for transforming the city from an economically <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.florida-demographics.com\/miami-gardens-demographics#:~:text=Race%20&amp;%20Ethnicity,%)%20and%20White%20(2.0%).\" data-reader-unique-id=\"278\"><span data-reader-unique-id=\"279\">depressed community into a thriving city<\/span><\/a><span data-reader-unique-id=\"280\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"281\"><span data-reader-unique-id=\"282\">\u201cWe\u2019re very, very proud that Miami Gardens has become a major artery of the Black community in South Florida.\u201d Vice Mayor Wilson shared.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"283\"><span data-reader-unique-id=\"284\">In its seventeenth year, with Black Promoters Collective at the helm, the Jazz in the Gardens music festival did not disappoint.
