{"id":5316,"date":"2024-03-08T12:27:49","date_gmt":"2024-03-08T17:27:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jazzinthegardens.com\/firstact\/?p=5316"},"modified":"2024-04-22T12:28:48","modified_gmt":"2024-04-22T16:28:48","slug":"jitg-sweetened-with-bahamian-flavor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jazzinthegardens.com\/firstact\/2024\/jitg-sweetened-with-bahamian-flavor\/","title":{"rendered":"JITG sweetened with Bahamian flavor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-reader-unique-id=\"1\">Emily \u201cSweet Emily\u201d Williams, the queen of Junkanoo, will be the first Bahamian to perform on the Jazz In The Gardens Music Fest ticket.<\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"2\">Sweet Emily, one of the two-day festival\u2019s opening acts is scheduled for a 2:59 p.m. performance on Saturday, March 9, at the Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Gardens, Miami, Florida.<\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"3\">Sweet Emily says she will pack a punch at this 17th annual festival, accompanied by Junkanooers who reside in the Miami area, and stilt walkers stage-side during what is expected to be an approximate 15-to-20 minutes set.<\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"19\">In the days leading up to her performance, Sweet Emily, whose music career spans more than four decades, in the leadup to the popular music festival, rehearsed with the Deep Fried Funk Band which delivers incredible stage presence with every performance.<\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"24\">She said when JITG organizers thought about expanding the genres for this year\u2019s festival, the destination closest to Miami \u2013 The Bahamas came to mind. And that she was tapped because of her musical abilities, vast catalog of work, large fan base in Miami and because she can work a crowd.<\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"25\">\u201cSweet Emily embodies the cultural demeanor of her country. Her traditional musical style, clean rhythmic movements on stage and her strong melodious vocal sound is what Bahamians around South Florida love,\u201d she said on her social media page.<\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"26\">She said she has the authentic sound of The Bahamas that is loved and that makes her unique.<\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"27\">\u201cSweet Emily is an experienced performing artist who has the ability to ignite the Bahamian musical experience at Jazz In The Gardens, and those who attend the event will agree that her classic hits are still relevant even among younger audiences,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"28\">Sweet Emily will be taking to the stage at the music festival that has become the City of Miami flagship event and that is being headlined by the soul-stirring, Grammy award-winning, and multi-platinum-selling Maxwell.<\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"29\">The star-studded lineup also features Babyface, Jeezy, Scarface, and DJ Cassidy\u2019s \u201cPass the Mic Live! featuring Lil Kim, T.I., Too $hort, Uncle Luke, Tamia, Marsha Ambrosius and October London \u2013 and that is only day two.<\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"30\">Sweet Emily\u2019s Saturday card will feature performances by Jazmine Sullivan, Summer Walker, Davido, Kirk Franklin, Omarion, Fantasia (who is one of Sweet Emily\u2019s favorites), Tink and Eric Bellinger and a special DJ set by Kid Capri \u2013 \u201cDJ Nasty 305 Welcome to The Crib Set\u201d featuring Rick Ross, Trick Daddy, Trina, Ballgreezy, Wayne Wonda, Major 9 and Michael Sterling.<\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"33\">Jazz In The Gardens will be hosted by the dynamic comedic duo Rickey Smiley and Jess Hilarious.<\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"34\">Taking in the festival, courtesy of The Nassau Guardian, Star 106.5 FM Hits, Bahamasair, the newly renovated Holiday Inn Express &amp; Suites, 1701 University Drive, Plantation, Florida; and GoGoFlorida, will be promotion winners Amanda Curling and Delwyn Cox, who were both winners of Bahamasair tickets and concert tickets for two; as well as Shania Brown and Anastasia Turnquest who won concert tickets for two.<\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"35\">Curling, a multi-JITG festival attendee and winner was excited to win again to what she says is one of her favorite music festivals.<\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"36\">\u201cVery excited,\u201d she said. \u201cI want to see DJ Cassidy because I watched him all through COVID.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"37\">The veteran music festival attendee said she wanted to see Sweet Emily as well, but lamented the Bahamian\u2019s early stage time, and that she for certain wants to see Fantasia.<\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"38\">Her sister, Sheryl Curling, will travel with her once again.<\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"39\">\u201cWhen she [Sheryl] heard I won, she said \u2018Look at God.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"40\">Curling said she purchased quite a few Nassau Guardians to enter the promotion, but says it paid off.<\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"41\">Delwyn Cox, will be going to his first JITG music festival and says he knows it will be \u201cawesome\u201d considering Davido will be performing.<\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"42\">\u201cI\u2019m just looking forward to enjoying myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"43\">And he will be doing so with is \u201cride or die cousin, Shantel Horton.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"44\">Shania Brown was also excited to be attending.
